Old Fortress
The tower controlled the port of Capo Carbonara, already attested since 1566 and frequented by coral divers and fishermen, as well as the mouth of the Rio di Carbonara, possible mooring for water and wood supply for any pirates. The fortress, overlooking the sea, was visible from the towers of Capo Boi, Porto Giunco and Cala Caterina.
